Our Business

The forging business has come a long way since the days of the Old West Blacksmith using a coal fire bellows and a five pound sledge hammer to make houseshoes one at a time. At Michiana Forge, Inc., the metal is heated using state-of-the-art resistance heaters capable of heating a three-pound steel rod (referred to as a billet) to 2,300 degrees within 6 to 7 seconds. The billet is then automatically run through the impressions die blocks on our Chambersburg Impacters and within a few seconds the part has been forged under thousands of pounds of pressure into the specific dimensions with tight tolerances. Our Impactors are capable of producing thousands of parts per day at an extremely high efficiency rate.
